Rewriting the opening of a short story

Hi!
For my AS English language and literature college enrolment task I've been asked to rewrite the opening of a short story from the point of view of a mother, however, my mind has gone completely blank on how to tackle this.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to approach this? Thank you :smile:
Sounds really cliche, but you have to place yourself into the position of the character you are writing about, as if you were them yourself. Try to imagine the sequence of events from their perspective, using the knowledge you have about that character. Are they a strict mother? Protective?
What is the story about? This would probably help me more, to help you!
