International students & bank accounts...

Hello,

I am an international student and one of the first things that I'll have to do
as soon as I arrive to the uk is to open a bank account. I will also be living
in uni halls during the first year where any kind of telephone or
telecommunications cabling installation is restricted.

Now, how am I supposed to open a bank account with hsbc if I don't have
a phone number. I won't be able to sign a mobile contract either, because
you need a bank account to do it. I'll have to buy a pay as you go mobile,
the question is, will hsbc accept the mobile number to open an account for me?

they rarely ever call u. therefore give a uni number so that they leave u a message n u get back to them or sometin or go to the bank n just explain the situation im sure theyll explain their alternatives to u!

they will accpet a pay as you go number, it makes no difference to them, they wont even know..

come to think of it i dont remember giving them my number... suppose i must of

but yes, any number will do, pay as you go is perfect...
