My granddad has CC997 on whatever car he drives at the time in memory of the Mini that took him to victory in the Rally of Wales a long time ago!

Don't see the point. Actually I think it's pretty stupid.
Why needlessly line the DVLA's pocket for something that might spell out a word if you squint?

There's plenty of muppets that have got money to waste, though. The grandparents used to have a Jaguar MK10 which they bought with 1 BMA on it - they sold the plate, kept the now free Jaguar and cleared the mortgage.

Hey guys, I thought I'd try and make a dedicated registration/number plate thread in the motoring section, as it is something I am avidly interested in. Feel free to talk about plates you own, want or have simply seen (pictures are much appreciated!)

My Father buys and sells a lot of number plates, but plates he currently owns are as follows:
COV 80Y (on retention)
COV 130Y (on my car  )
EL11 ENA (on his car - my little sister is called Ellena)
24 COV (Mum's car)
20 ANA (on the Range Rover)
1 JMD (on my Granddad's car)
EDD7E (on retention)
JOY 80Y (on retention)
B19 COV (on my cousin's car)

A few other "BIG COV" plates in various forms on retention, as he used to own a limo company that donned them all. If you hadn't already guessed, I picked up my interest in number plates from my Dad. The tendency for "COV" plates come from the city we live in, Coventry.

What have you guys got to share?!

This is a forum, you express opinions which everyone might not agree with. From your picture I was able to find your home address. I would change it if I was you.

Also, today in London I spotted the infamous gold Ferrari 458 Spyder with the plate "F1 IRAK", as well as a black/gold chrome Bugatti and matching Range Rover Sport.

I also saw many other private plates, but "B 69" springs to mind
Never been into something as vain as this one.

Prefer a standard and random plate on a car as I don't want it to be remembered whether for good or bad reasons

However I do like my cars to have plenty of number 8 on it or like the numbers to add up to 8

Each to their own I suppose.

I think that the idea of having a number plate that means something to me is quite cool, because motoring is currently my biggest hobby atm.
Those plates are all horrible.

The best ones I've seen are:

M3 CSL (On an CSL)

and

CL10 CUP (Clio Cup)

I own H4 WTF, and would seriously consider selling it. THey're crap, unless they are like above.

(Think F1 would look good on an F1 too)
Best I've seen is 'D4RE U' (or something very similar) on an e46 M3. So bad ass.

I passed a Jag the other day with the numberplate "A8 NOB". I was a bit confused. :erm:

I'm a car person and do enjoy motoring. However I prefer the technicalities to it rather than cosmetics.

As for number plates. I rather not spend any money on this, the only thing I did was when I had my former car, I had it registered in Oslo instead of in Bergen as at that time all plates started with SV and SV is the initials for the Socialist Left party, a looney group in Norway thus I didn't want free advertisements for them
Nah, I see it as being a bit chavvy if I'm being honest

Having one that has the car model on has to be the worst type of private plate. Even more so when you see an old shape Audi A3 with something like 'A3 RTG' on it...

I don't mind personalised plates if they're actually legible for what they stand for. Sometimes I question why someone has gone to the expense of a private plate for something so vague. Obviously the letters probably mean something to them....but if it just looks like a random set of letters then I don't see the point of putting it on your car.

I'm from an area where a lot of people have private plates similar to your COV ones based on the area and I just find that tacky because everyone seems to have it. What's the point in a private plate if someone else down your road has one almost identical?

Saying that though, there's a few plates I'd quite fancy, one is a nickname of mine (and it's actually legible on a private registration!) and the other is a name of an area (but the actual full name of the place along the lines of GL45 GOW if we were talking about Glasgow) though I'm not gonna disclose what the plates are since I ain't bought them haha. Can't have anyone else stealing them before me

Out of curiosity though, is the spacing on your COV 130Y and EL11 ENA plates legal? Some of the characters look pretty tight! haha

The spacing on my plate is fine, however the Ellena plate is, um, ahh... well, let's just say the only time police have had anything to say about it, is when one told us that he has a daughter called Ellena and asked to take a picture! haha

I've seen loads like that and I thought it was illegal - however everyone seems to do it so i guess the police aren't too bothered.

haha, I was thinking there's supposed to be a bigger gap between the age identifier and the last three digits  That plate is a good one though! Guarantee all her friends will be jealous once she gets it!

Yeah, it's not as bad as people rearranging their screws to turn C's into E's and before standard fonts came into place .... like this travesty haha
I doubt many police would actually get a ruler out and measure the spacing though!
