What the frick is a CRITICAL STUDY in Art/Photography?

I get that we have to choose an exhibition and whatever but

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO START !

What is a critical study? I mean what are we supposed to put in it?

I literally have no idea except we just do some critical analysis' in it, but what's all this extra stuff about having artist interviews in your book?

I'm really confused by what it is, and for photography as well.
