I want a job yo but have no past experience?

Why is it that everytime I try to apply for a job they ask for previous work places like I have none so I leave it straight away and look for something else. I wanted to work in Macky's but on the application form they asked for past workplaces. What do I do?

They do that to see how experienced you are at working with customers. In an ideal world, someone with 30 years retail experience is more likely to get a job than someone with none.

Just put "Not applicable" in the boxes and keep applying.

I've recently had to train someone with no retail experience lately and they were awful at the job and lacked motivation, the particular branch of where I worked is now no longer taking on people with no experience unless extremely short of staff.
Don't write "I want a job yo". However, if you must then at least punctuate it!

Also, go and do some work experience. Not only is it something that is necessary for everyone to do in order to gain employment, but it can also result in tenure. If you work your arse off when working for nothing, many employers will believe you deserve a paid role or, at the very least a glowing reference, which will only aid you.

I know it's not what you were hoping for but would you consider taking on some voluntary work maybe one day a week? I think that helped me a lot when I was first applying for jobs, I used to volunteer in a charity shop which wasn't exactly glamorous but it got me some retail experience and showed them that I could work with others / commit to something / blah blah blah. I know it's not a solution for everyone but it's something you could maybe consider if you don't get the response you'd like any time soon.

All the best, I hope someone gets back to you soon.

Yeah, apologies RE: punctuation. I'm being an English student snob right now. Seriously though, a lot of work involves contacting customers and co-workers etc. via email, so brushing up on your English isn't bad advice.*You should also ensure that you keep a check on how you speak to potential employers, as many of them will just refuse to consider anybody that uses slang, or at least those that don't know how to distinguish when the right time to use formal and informal dialect is.

With regards to work experience, if you've only done the obligatory two-weeks during school time then put that on your cv but be sure to highlight that it was only work experience. However, you should find another company to do some work experience in, and if you can do something you think you'd like to pursue. For example, if you would like to work in hospitality then do some voluntary work in a local restaurant. Not only will this show you some of what you are likely to be doing, but you'll also be getting relevant experience in your chosen field. Also, if you can try and get the experience in a small company at first; there's more opportunities for the employers to see your worth and a better chance of a glowing, personalised reference.

Anyway, best of luck!

You're going to have to volunteer/work for free to build up your CV. Or start with jobs that truly require nothing at all, i.e. cleaning, street fundraising, babysitting, anything you can find.

You only have no past work experience, that's not the same as no experience. You need to be clear about the skills the employer is looking for and then demonstrate you have those skills, transferred from some other aspect of your life.

Volunteer at a charity shop a couple of times, from this you can gain experience both on the till and socialising with customers of a wide age range. Also shelf stacking and pricing etc which is handy for most store job applications.

Have you done any work experience through school anywhere? It's good to emphasize any transferable skills you may have learnt e.g working as a team or social skills that make you seem more friendly and approachable at first glance.
Hope that helps.

Lol dont worry man (or woman! I meant that in a gender-neutral way.) I just thought it would be good advice anyway, because most jobs, even the ones that lead on to lucrative careers require interaction with others at some point, and it's important to be at a good standard!

Good luck and let me know how you get on! I'd be interested to hear how it all develops for you.
Say you're the owners son.
how do you think every single person got their first job? noone had a job before applying for their first job, you leave your references as school teachers, did you do any work experience in your last year of school? if yes use that also and maybe try volunteering in the meantime while you look for a job it shows your motivated and ready to start working!
