Mac or PC for Mechanical Engineering?

I'm starting at Lancaster next month to study mechanical engineering and I'm considering getting a new laptop. What kind of software is used on the course and do most people use macs or PCs? Are there any official recommendations?

I can't speak for your course, but any required software was available on the university computer for my first year. Your choice of OS shouldn't matter, choose what you prefer.

I've done a bit more asking around and everyone's saying that all the software works on both or if it doesn't there's an equivalent. I think I'll stick with PC because I have one so I can save some money. Might get an iPad for other stuff though.
