I'd also like to add my new Chemistry teacher as a stand-out crappy thing about by school.

All she does is hand out sheets and sheets of crap and explain really quickly in her Scottish accent.

God, she's one of the most awful teachers in the school, and people said she'd be good. I declare bullsh*t.

25-30 in an A level class?! That's huge! We have an average of 10, and a maximum of about 18. Last year 27 signed up to psychology, and the teacher constantly complained that it was too many in the class, this year it's gone down to about 12 and they say it's perfect, and I only have about 4/5 people in my chem class.

My smallest class is 15 people.

most of your teachers get arresteD?

one for child porn
one for having sex with a student (who ALSO happened to be his son's ex girlfriend)
and the other for fraud. (yet he was the most likely to be a perv)

I *think* that's it.

Wow, its funny how futile my gripes seem to some of the others here. I guess at NCL we really do have it much better than most. Nevertheless;

EMA Payments
Newcastle College requires 100% attendance in order to receive EMA for that week. Of course theres nothing wrong with that in theory. Its just that they are so terribly futile at recording attendence that every week you have to chase up almost half of your attendence stats. Back when I got only £10 a week, I simply didn't bother - due to the amount of time you'd be queuing with all the other failed EMA payment students. 80-90% would be better, just to give a little 'mistake buffer'.

Number of long free periods
Even when taking three A2's, and one AS, a 9-5 timetable still manages to include 2-3 hour breaks per day. I understand its that way in order to cater for 2-4k students, but surely something could be done. Theres only so much 'self study' I can do! Although, an on-campus subsidised pub has helped a little .

Sheer number of students
This year the college has [over] subscribed an extensive number of AS students. Its now simply impossible to get the lift near the start of the lesson, or to move around in the foyer. In a 9 floor college, you have to wonder about the logic behind that decision.

Retake rules
In order to resit just one module, you must be enrolled on and attend the course itself. As you can imagine, this is problematic if your doing a module in January, that the rest of the class isn't being entered for or taught until June. So your stuck in a timetabled lesson doing work you have no need to do.

Lack of WiFi and over-restrictive proxy
Its not much fun paying £20 a month just to get your laptop on the internet (T-Mobile ftw!). Really should have a wifi access point. Also, the proxy server is very slow due to the number of people on it at any one time. I also don't much like the fact it blocks digg.com. Not much fun trying to use an SSH tunnel for remote desktop over a connection equivilant to 128k.

Inter-campus bus service
Its running times are pathetic and of no relevence to A-level students. Nor does it run between any of newcastles bus interchange points, making it almost completely useless. Its a 20minute walk between the innercity and the college :frown:.

My college has around 2000 students and still manages sane timetabling, so that's not an entirely valid excuse!

Oh god, I know the feeling. Every afternoon after classes end you can't move in the foyer. We tend to have a similar problem in the corridors between every lesson because a couple of thousand people trying to move around at once is nuts. It wouldn't be so bad, but we have to instantly be at our next lesson without any chance to change rooms. Stupid.

Now that is stupid.
Wednesdays: 3 hours and 55 minutes of maths.

I did say between 2-4k, I've forgot the actual number :frown:. I bet you have more rooms, and lecturers than us too. Be grateful

Well at least they're moving! We have students that are in the corridoor waiting to go into the rooms themselves. For some reason or other they're locked when they're not in use. The corridoors are not big, and 15-30 students waiting to go into a single room can really mess things up (especially when theres more than one class beginning to start). We have the 'instant-changover lessons ©' too :frown:.

We get that too. I hate it most when people stop on the stairs to hold a conversation. Gahhh!
