Going to university without social media

So I'm not on any social media, Facebook/Twitter, will I be considered an outcast? I do have a phone and all along with Whatsapp but it seems like everyone at uni has Twitter and/or Facebook.

It's not that hard to just get social media. It takes like 2 mins to sign up to facebook, twitter etc.

But I don't feel the need to share my life with everyone...and its effort to update my wall or what have you.

To be honest, I know loads of people with Facebook who never update it. It's just there, all they do is accept friend requests, haha. Think you'd find a surprising number of people have Facebook but never update and just use it for the funny memes and messaging.

You don't have to do that. Most people at uni will have an account and it just makes planning events and communicating with people much easier. You are not obligated to write pointless statuses.

Like Will2348 says, you're not compelled to share your life stories or what you do.

It's a great way to keep up with society activities, as well as uni group help between students! Be it past exam papers or questions that you quickly need an answer for

Cheers for the replies, but is it common to find people without fb/twitter?

Probably not. I cba with social media either and don't have twitter/instagram but I have fb just to keep in touch with people and organised nights out really.

I doubt it. Some societies during freshers will start out with emails. But for organising events with ease and to see who's coming, facebook is the fastest way to do it. Email is outdated for that and too time consuming.

I never used social media and 2 years of uni passed me by. (I never even attended any freshers' events either)

No worries!

I definitely recommend it even just for the education side of things.

With all due respect, thats pretty sad. Not against someone studying hard but c'mon thats extreme.
Well social media isn't a big deal. You get to socialise at Uni enough. So even of you're not Fb etc, it's not a big deal

No, I just went ahead of the programming module with a book that I borrowed from the library. Made it easier during term time.
