Durham vs Imperial for Physics?

Can anyone recommend which university is better in terms of which one:
is better academically
has better social
course content
accommodation (not costs)
student satisfaction

I know some of these depend on the person, but I would just like some opinions.
Thanks

Both Imperial and Durham have similar rankings in Physics in the UK (Imperial tends to be slightly higher) although Imperial seems to do considerably better in international league tables. According to the Guardian rankings, Imperial's student satisfaction is a fraction higher (quite a bit higher in terms of teaching satisfaction, a fair bit lower in terms of feedback satisfaction and slightly higher in terms of course satisfaction); according to the Complete University Guide, Durham's is a fraction higher, so I don't think there's a big difference. Imperial seems to have slightly better graduate prospects.

Imperial is a bit more specialist to the area, so I imagine it probably attracts more funding, and as above has a more of an international spotlight on it. I don't think there's that much in it though.

Social-wise, it's London vs Durham, so if you're looking for things to do then London is always going to win. If you want a quieter more relaxed life, then Durham would serve you better. There's a couple of places to go out in Durham, but my impressions were that it was quite limited, and for a big night out it was preferable to just go up to Newcastle. Transport in London is pretty much the best in the country, but obviously everything tends to be busier and far more expensive. It's up to you whether you could live in London, basically.

I prefer Imperial mainly because it's more academic and one has greater physics career opportunities from Imperial, and is more fun:wink:.
