University of Southampton Applicants 2015

Hey guys
I thought I'd better start a thread looking for people who are applying for the University of Southampton for September 2015 entry? Thought we'd better start with a list of questions:

-What course are you thinking of applying for?
- What are you currently studying?
-Why the University of Southampton?
-Have you attended any open days or visits to the university?

I thought we could use this thread to keep updated on applications and just general news about the University of Southampton

I'm on a gap year but I did Law, BTEC ICT and Business (a*, dist* and a respectively). I want to study law and I chose southampton as it's a great uni with a good reputation - went to an open day and it looked great, nice students and staff and a lovely campus!

How about you? (Assuming you are in the same boat!)

Have you got a deferred entry place then? I'm on my gap year too (not deferred) and I have finished my A Levels in Biology, Psychology and Health and Social Care and I want to study Occupational Therapy. I haven't had the chance to visit the university because I live so far away but I really hope I'll get the chance before I apply, but, I really like the look of the university from the website, the course, the reputation and I've heard some very good reviews about the university from others  How's your gap year going?

Course: Psychology and Criminology
Studying: Psychology, RS, Poltics and Maths Alevels
Why?: Well I only just recently came across Southampton by asking for a suggestion on here for a 5th uni! But it's the only russell group uni that offers my course! (accredited) and so will be my highest offer (fingers cross they give me one) which I wanted a higher one so... yeah
Open day: Went to the one last friday (5th). REALLY liked it which has made my decision hard. The campus was really green and lovely which I liked. The student union seemed like the best I've seen - like at others there's not really been much info about it but here they were really promoting it  plus the library was big which is good and you get a free bus pass which is great compared to the other one it's against for my first choice - all money saved is a bonus obviously! - it's closer to home (but not too close) which will also save on train fares home, it's approx. 3 hrs compared to 5 ish for my others

Nice! So is Southampton your top choice of university? By any chance did you get to see the accommodation? What was it like? I really want to go to an open day, but not sure whether I'll be able to due to money and distance :frown:

Joint top  it's between Swansea and Southampton. Yeah you know how there are two like villagey looking ones if you get what I mean: Glen Eyre and Wessex Lane? We just went to Glen Eyre since they look similar online and we had to get to talks etc. But I really liked the look of Glen Eyre looked a nice area the rooms were good sizes just like other places and the kitchens too. Plus there was a fitness suit and squash courts which is a bonus, might make me go to the gym if I dont have to walk far haha is there anything specifically you like to know about them? i.e are you looking at ensuite or shared? I'm looking at ensuite but I did go in one standard room

Thanks for that. But for me, having an ensuite isn't much of a big deal for me. Is there a lot of space in your own room? Also is it the type of accommodation, you could easily socialise with people? Thanks so much for the help  So have you been to Swansea yet?

It's okay  well I only went in the enhanced standard room but that for me was pretty big like if I was getting a standard I'd probably save my money but that definately had a lot of space! The kitchen was just a kitchen if you know what I mean, like in one at Lincoln there was a sofa but at Southampton there was the table and chairs and the kitchen stuff. But on the map I saw a common room but we didn't bother going in there so I don't know sorry. Yeah I've been to Sussex, Swansea, Lincoln and Southampton! but didn't like Sussex

I don't have a place, I applied to different universities but exceeded the requirements so I'm reapplying to higher ones  gap year is great - I got a job in a bookshop! You? It's a great university and the campus is so green!! I saw trees and ponds, fish and ducks

Hey!

I'm going to be applying for Graduate Entry Medicine for 2015 entry.

I have a degree in Classics from Oxford (2.1) and sat a Chemistry A Level this year and managed to get an A*

Applying to Southampton partly because the medical school is really good and partly because I grew up in Southampton so I know the city and the university and the hospital well.

Good luck to you all!

Hi  Sorry for the late reply  Yeah I've really enjoyed my gap year up until now, over the summer I kept so busy and tried to keep doing different things and do some personal statement building which I have loved. However at the moment, my gap year has been put into a bit a limbo whilst I wait for the paperwork of my new job to come through, so I haven't got much to do at the moment because I need the paperwork in order to start -.-' I;ve got a job as a Health Care Support Worker but as I said I haven't started yet. Funnily enough, I've been on the virtual tour for Southampton Uni and the green spaces are definitely something that has drawn me to it because I really want somewhere nice where I can just relax and chill, you know?

Oh! Gosh! Medicine, such a difficult on to get into, good luck, but it seems you have all the grades and the requirements so you've already won half the battle, which is always a help haha :P Got much work experience/voluntary work on your personal statement? Good luck
Wish I did a btec!
It's far easier to gain 420 ucas points- D* D* D*
And attend a top Russell group uni

Hey! I feel you
However, for my course, Southampton are not taking BTEC's unless they are combined with at least one other A Level!
A Levels are tough...very tough.
What are you thinking of applying for?
I hate A levels, though like 2 A levels & a Btec look good than say CCD at A level! Thanks & Politics and IR
Almost every uni Russell Group accepts them like Kcl and I know a guy who did all Btecs & got into Durham :frown: wish I chose them

Well personally, when I later discovered I could have gotten in to uni with a BTEC in Health and Social Care, I really thought it over and realised that if I know that when picking my options I know that I would have still picked A Levels, because I enjoyed Biology and Psychology, which as far as I am aware, is not covered in Health and Social. Besides, BTEC's and A Levels are both difficult but just in different ways, I think  So where are you thinking of applying to uni?

What course are you thinking of applying for? Computer Science (G400)

What are you currently studying? Access to HE Computing

Why the University of Southampton? Southampton itself is a brilliant area, the university has an amazing reputation and is also highly ranked both as a university and in the specific subject area.

Have you attended any open days or visits to the university? I didn't have the chance to unfortunately, this obviously hinders my choice a slight bit however as its my 1st choice I'll definately attempt to attend an open day or even a campus tour, that way I will get the full expereience of the campus

Nooooooo! !!! Btecs are definitely way far too easier than A levels!!!! Do you think I could do one extra as an external candidate maybe to gain more ucas points? And that's good if you enjoyed your subjects:smile: you'll do really well! !! ..I want to go qmul/royal Holloway etc. Because London is good!!!!! wbu?
