uni choice and ps

i was looking for uni rankings and i went to that guardian education site.. it had all of the rankings divided into tariffs wat are the chances of getting into a tariff 6 uni?
and wat offers better career options just physics or engineering sciences.. i havent decided wat engineering science to go into and i'm inclined towards electrical engineering but i dont think i wanna specifically put that down in my ucas application.. but writing a ps for just engineering sciences will be harder. I was wondering if it wud go a little against me when the guys at the uni are looking at my ps and i've applied only to engineering sciences and not a specific part of them!!
