How much of an issue is bike theft in Leeds?

I intend to bring my bike with me when I come to Leeds, as a means of getting around, and I was wondering how much of an issue is up there. I'm currently trying to decide whether to invest in an excessively heavy and expensive lock, rather than just your average D lock. Any advice?

A lot of bikes get stolen in Leeds, if you leave your bike randomly around, like most people do. But the biggest thing is don't be part of the 80%+ of people that don't wear a helmet, I've seen two people knocked off their bikes now and I've only lived here for a year, both didn't have a helmet. So please wear a helmet and yes get the bigger lock!
