International welcome week?

I'll be travelling to Nottingham with my parents and attending the international welcome week, although I will be missing the first two days. Since I'm travelling with my parents and Notts' temporary accommodation doesn't allow parents to stay with us during the week, I've decided to stay in a hotel with them instead of alone in dorms. Is this normally done? I'm a bit worried about missing out socialising opportunities, especially since I'm already missing the first few days. Do most people come with their parents? Do we attend the events with our parents? If not, what are they supposed to do for days? Sorry I'm just so confused about this!

Don't worry, just relax. I don't know whether people usually stay in a hotel with their parents but it won't be a problem. The events are arranged for students, not parents, but they will be welcome to have a look round the lovely campus and use the shops and catering facilities. If it was me I would send them off into Nottingham city centre, there's lots to do there, while you go to the welcome events. But if they don't want to be separated from you during international welcome week you can find out everything the following week when all the other freshers arrive. Have fun!
