I watched a lot of the video footage of his trials.
He was quite plainly lying through his teeth. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he killed her out of jealousy and his story about the intruder is bull**** with a capital B from start to finish.
I agree. He seems quite shifty and cunning to me.
I think what we have in this case is clear evidence of why juries are needed in trials. This judge has done a legalistic analysis and what she thinks is a judgement on the evidence presented. (Although many lawyers are doubting she got even that right.) What she didn't do is use common sense, which is what juries are for.
They're also called 'opinions' ... but hey seems like we aren't deemed worthy of them.
No you can have your opinions. But if you don't understand basic legal definitions then your 'opinions' aren't worth their salt. This isn't Celebrity Big Brother, it's a murder trial.
Everyone has the right to an opinion, but those who express baseless opinions, or try and pass off their opinions as fact, are not exempt from ridicule.
I've been on this thread from start to finish, and I have yet to seen anyone post gibberish...
Tbf he wouldn't have been able to foresee that. I just do not understand how you can wake up in a bed and not sense almost right way your partner isn't next to you? I know if I woke up expecting my girlfriend to be there and she wasn't, I'd know instantly, no body heat, no weight on the bed, no covers over another torso..how can you collect your thoughts, get your gun and get out of bed without noticing that? And who decides to engage in what could potential be a shooting match with an armed burglar (if that's what he really thought he was facing) without waking their partner up?! There is no logic...
Eggggzactly. at the very least you would whisper "keep still while I check thisout" or something similar. And he had to walk around her side of the bed with the fan nonsense. It is inconcievable.

If you think about it, that seems normal. But when life threatening situations comes, you lose a lot of your normal situational awareness. Priority shifts to neutralise the threat before it gets you. A lot of other things don't matter. Add the fact that he disabled. Most people would do what said but I assume quite a few also won't.
Even the screams of the woman could be nullified for a few seconds when you are literally in that sort of situation. Depends on how tense he was. Also depends on how fast he can shoot the trigger. I forgot how fast he shot the gun, but if he was used to shooting and practised, it could be over pretty quick.
Even phoneix wright would find this case a very very hard one.
All done then. Pistorius gets a five-year jail sentence for culpable homicide, plus a three-year jail sentence (suspended for five years) and 300 hours community service for gun charges.
Not quite as harsh as many would have liked, but there's a definite recognition there by the court that murdering your girlfriend in cold blood during a row and then pretending afterwards that it was all a dreadful mistake is not likely to end well.

Whoops - my bad. Made my post halfway through sentencing!
It's a very sorry story all round - although it's important to note that he has been convicted of a negligent mistake - not murder.

Pathetic how emotionally charged your words are. Clearly he did not murder his girlfriend in cold blood, since he was not charged with murder.

I really don't think that is clear. The judge ruled that, but the process in South Africa has shown decisively why jury trial is a better system. Does anyone really think this guy would have got manslaughter in a British court?
Seems suspiciously like the sentencing is a compromise 'win-win solution' to somewhat satiate those who believe his guilt and justify leniency for the culpable homicide verdict.
Sentence itself may be fair but I think some form of enhanced minimum term (something like minimum 2.5 years before eligible for parole) should have been imposed so he can't walk out 10 months latter, especially given his evasiveness in court.
How on earth a person who have never pulled the trigger before suddenly just decided to shoot out of fear or panic. Must have been overcome by so much anger not to at least hear the cry of the screaming lady. Mistake or not may God help us he is indeed the true witness of all things. May her soul rest in peace
Pretty much every justice system in the world is corrupt, not just South Africa with the Oscar Pistorious case. Its a rare day that true justice is ever properly served.
