Pharmacy part-time job..

I was wondering if anyone was in the same boat as me..
I'm gonna be starting my 2nd year of Pharmacy this September at uni, and well I've managed to land myself two different 1 day jobs in separate pharmacies..

It was a long, long process, handing out CV's, being rejected a million times, to manage to get these jobs..I'm so grateful. However, I have accepted both jobs, and just wondered is that allowed? I'm going to be trained by both and well i'm finding it difficult to decide between them... is it a good idea to keep them both and see how it goes?

Wow, that's a cracker - you'll be studying full time and working 2 days a week too? Are you sure you'll be able to manage both of those?

In my opinion, I would just decide now which one I thought was the better opportunity, and go with that one.

Lloyds pharmacy on a thursday from 6-11pm and Superdrug pharmacy on a saturday from 11-5:30pm.... do you think I'll manage or will it be too much? Are you a pharmacy student yourself?

It sounds like quite a lot to be honest - being a full time student, that's around 40 hours of commitment a week, and then work would be another 11.5 hours a week. And let's be honest, pharmacy's no easy degree, you're going to have to work hard.

Yeah, I'm about to go into my 2nd year of MPharm at Brighton.

I worked these past summer holidays in an independent pharmacy as a counter assistant / dispenser for 3 months, and of those, 2 weeks my manager was away, so I had to work longer hours in order to support the pharmacist - I ended up working about 45 hour weeks (as opposed to the usual 37.5), during which I felt very stressed and generally too tired to do anything afterwards.

And that was just for 2 weeks - you'll be doing that for the foreseeable future.

In conclusion, my advice would be to stick to just one job, so you can concentrate on doing well on the course, but also on the socialising aspect of uni - you don't want it to become all work and no 'play'.

Hope this helps!

Hi, this is a bit random but I was just wondering if you dropped your CV into the Lloyds and Superdrug pharmacy or if there were vacancies advertised and an application form filled in?

hey man

heard today that you can get a BSc if you leave pharmacy after third year...

and then you could do the gamsat in September studying the whole summer
and do the irish one in march

alternatively you could do the gamsat during your pre reg year although that may prove to be tricky...

Yeah, but if you leave after 3rd year, you don't have Pharmacy as a back-up if you can't get into Medicine. Also, quite a few Pharmacy graduates who are doing Medicine tend to start medical school after their pharmacy pre-reg year, so they can locum in community/hospital while at medical school.

surely yeh can just go back and do your final year if you dont get in?

ah..its a good thing to know all the same if yeh ever wanted to swap into something else

I'm applying for pharmacy for 2015, my AS grades are Physics(B), Math(B),Chemistry(C) and Biology (D) with predictions of ABB (dropped physics)- the current options im considering applying for are Manchester, Brighton, Reading and exeter for Pharmacology with my 5th option still undecided. What are my chances of getting an offer from these univeritys and with these grades can anyone recommend a 5th option? Thanks
