Photography = just take photographs????

I thoroughly enjoy photography, and am thinking to take it at College.
I would like to know if the jump is very big between GCSE and A-level, like is there exams and what sort of things do you develop on.
How easy did you find it? I have been told that it is very "easy" and that it simply involves taking pictures and creating an analysis on them etc... is this correct?
Thanks
