What's the difference between a grammar school, a private school, an independent school and any other types of schools. It's confusing.

Grammar schools are schools that admit students based on ability. This may either be assessed by grades or an entry exam. The opposite is a comprehensive school which does not admit students based on ability.

Independent schools are the same as private schools. They don't get government funding and therefore demand fees to be paid. The opposite is a state school which does get government funding and is free.
