Young men 70% more likely than young women to live with parents

Poll

Do you agree?

http://www.theguardian.com/money/2014/jan/21/record-levels-young-adults-living-home-ons

"In the 20-34 age group, over 600,000 more women than men were living as part of a couple in their own household," it said. "The main reason for this is that, on average, women form partnerships with men older than themselves. Thus more women than men in this age group were married or cohabiting."

In addition, 589,000 more women than men were lone parents in their own household, and women were more likely to take part in higher education than men, leaving the family home to do so.

brb find older guy who makes good $$$
brb pop out kids and send the bill to the tax payers
brb do a fluffy degree with little or no value in the real world and again use public funds you'll likely never pay back (then find older guy)
brb brbing

These are very interesting statistics.

As opposed to women always having preferred older men?

Yes because women are more emotionally mature than men, they know it therefore they don't care to condescend to hang around with the little boys their own age and look for a real man.
I'm a young man living with parents. Seems legit.

The women being more mature thing is nonsense...men just have a longer maturing process so they get better looking when they're older. Teenage boys aren't attractive physically...they're skinny, face hasn't widened, hair and style usually crap. Whereas women are at their peak in late teens early 20's....so it stands to figure that guys when they become good looking around 23+ would be dating women at their best looking age. Plus women's eggs dry up a lot earlier than men's sperms so they really need to focus on settling down sooner.

Between 25-35 they become mental if they're single with no kids.

Also most women I know that have moved out...have just moved into where their partner owns or rents...not like they've done it on their own.

Quite apart from cohabiting with older men, or else being supported by their parents to live out in a flat (which also happens much more with girls in my experience)...

1. Women under 30 also have an overall advantage in the labour market, with the main driving factor being that they go to university more.
2. Furthermore, while there are still impediments in terms of careers, they are much better able to get basic jobs, especially non-technical and customer-facing, which there are a lot of in the service industry, which enable them to finance their own places.
3. I would like to be controversial and say that men are more apt to care where their money is going, so they save their money and look long-term to a mortgage; they rightly see living with parents while working as the best way to do that.

Err, so men are innately different to how they were in past generations? Or how about a more thoughtful analysis....

We're not talking individual cases, we're talking a generalized difference to the past here.

doubt it. We wouldn't have any men in university or in work if that were true.
Riku has got a point...men do have lower testosterone levels now, couple that with no real industry and the pay gap getting bigger and bigger, houses getting more and more expensive...women still want a man that will provide a mortgage and the majority of the income. Modern society is no longer set out for that.

Male suicide rates will keep increasing to what it is like in Japan.

You implied that this is a modern phenomenon, saying "young men these days are little lazy selfish whiney ****ty man-children," but I think women have always tended to partner with older men, so I think it's a stretch to pin it on the failings of today's men.

does actually seem pretty legit tbh.
I know I definitely intend to stay with my parents after I graduate until I can afford to pay for a deposit on a house (and of course, pay the damn mortgage payments too!)

Let's change the 'fact' here - it's not "men are 70% more likely to..." - it is "70% more men live at home than women..."

The 'likelihood' of living at home with your parents as a male isn't 70%, it's a very different value and impossible to calculate. What's '70% likely' is that if you pick a man in that age range and he fits the criteria.

This... and on that basis I agree because I know loads of guys in their 20s still living with their parents but I don't know many women who do in comparison and if they do they're itching to get away lol

Lower testosterone is due to the estrogen filled stuff that people use. Things like shampoo, cleaning products and the pill is filled with estrogen. This is then flushed down into the sewer system and steadily increases estrogen amount in tap water.

Yes they are, once upon a time most young men of working age:

a) had no welfare state to lie on so sitting on their asses was not an option, they had to earn a living

b) had to prove much more rigorous tests of manhood than today's men to achieve respect from men and be attractive to women

c) traditional values were espoused which include fortitude, stoicism, discipline, self-control, self-reliance, responsibility, self-sacrifice, for the greater good-metaphysical values requiring the ability for delayed gratification-unlike the narcissistic hedonists prevailing this generation relying on instant gratification, the promises of the false God (see d) ). Although they were materialists even before the welfare state (unless they truly grew up in poverty/pre-capitalism) they knew the value of money (because again a) no welfare state)

d) The decline of religion/religious values and the community has made money (capitalism) our new God

e) Society as a whole has become increasingly lazy and corrupt, as technology makes us slowly more sedentary increasing access to a surplus of food, fast food, pleasurable sedentary activities such as TV, social media, indeed government has practically campaigned to make children 'safer' by restricting them to indoors. Overall society has moved towards instant gratification; moreover, obesity has become socially acceptable, and much more possible to achieve

f) As women have lowered their standards in an increasingly hyper-sexualised West, and short-term relationships/sex bout side of marriage became more common, men no longer need to work as hard to be a provider; they could be dead-beat but physically masculine lovers instead as early as the 50s. Indeed in liberal progressive countries such as the UK they need not even be masculine to appeal to women at all (the rise of the metrosexual)

g) instant gratification in the form of pornography in particular has de-incentivised many young straight men, seeking only the reward of sex and social proof and therefore not working on the long-term values and personality traits that seek not to objectify women

h) since the success of feminism women have broken out of traditional gender roles and proven often exemplary competence in the professional fields. Men now have previously non-existent competition to deal with and frankly they are losing-mostly because a) why financially, when the nanny state will tend their boo-boos? and f) why sexually, when they can get an easy lay just by maintaining a certain physique?

I'm sounding like an old great grand-dad/Daily Fail reader here, and I know that under the old system I probably would have committed suicide two years ago because the non-existent welfare state would not have pandered to me with my issues and just given me a slap LOLOLOLl but if you want my honest criticism we men need to man up and grow up
