Gap year then Economics!

Hi there,

I am thinking of applying for either BSc (L100) Economics -or- BSc Economics & Econometrics.
However, I will be taking a gap year and volunteer to poor people abroad - India.

Please advise what kind of activities I could do which would be preferable to the university in relation to the courses I have selected above. I'm willing to do anything which will impress!

well its a very brave decision to drop a year and decide to do voluntrary work... though i dunno how much it will help you for a degree in economics, voluntrary work helps in courses like social work etc... a word of advice... if your doing social work only to impress you will never enjoy it.... especially in india...

Hi there,

In terms of Economics, I guess its probably not going to be the most helpful as such. However, it would maybe make me look better on Personal Statement and give me the edge over the other applicants?

I think as long as you do something, check if theres like a certificate of completion or something or...some proof that you've done volunteering then the Uni doesn't think you just dossed around for a year.
