First year

I just wonder what uni life actually is like. I am hoping to start it myself next year and I started reading plenty od articles about first year and infamous Freshers Week/Fair but also I'd like to know some first hand experiences and eventually receive some tips
All I did was get drunk and sleep then quickly try and learn everything for a few weeks before my exams. It was fun but looking back I wish I'd been more productive given how relatively easy first year is. Now in second year I'm trying to volunteer, join societies, learn a new language & do well in my course so it's going to be a very hectic year.

Hello

I really enjoyed university, but I actually began to enjoy it more and more as I progressed. Third year was incredible!

Freshers was good, not too heavy, I spent a lot of time going to Fresher Fairs, setting up my IT and tech in my room, setting up my room to feel like home and exploring Brum.... and shopping in the Bullring  Of course I still went for a boogie, customised my fresher's tshirt for the nights out and had a few drinks but wanted to be on good form during the day so never got too pickled!

I was in self-catering flats in the student village which I enjoyed, all my flatmates were studying different subjects and were all really nice girls. I only moved out with one of them in 2nd year as we mixed in with some girls from the flat opposite but still remained in touch with my original housies.

I did a history degree so by the third year contact time was pretty low... first year I probably had a couple of lectures per day, the rest of the time I was in the library or studying in my flat. I worked about 8 hours a week in H&M in first and second year but then worked in the bar in the Student Union - can't recommend that enough! So much fun and a fantastic way to meet people

I also met a lot of friends through sport; I played water polo so most Wednesdays I was travelling to other uni's to play polo and then back to Brum for a big team night out - we socialised with all the other sports clubs which was brilliant fun and good banter.

I chose modules that I knew I would really enjoy and just got my head down. In second year I made an early start on my dissertation.... a bit geeky but it worked a treat. I pretty much completed my research during my summer between 2nd year ending and third beginning and wrote it up to complete it in March. Planning my dissertation topic based on where I could do the research i.e. local to my family home during the summer was the best advice I was ever given, it made things so much more straightforward and cheap and I didn't then have to deal with the usual dissertation stress that most third years get!

Does that help at all? Where are you thinking about applying to?

Hey! I went to UWE  graduated last year though. I think it's a great uni. Bristol itself is such a nice place to live, so I'd definitely recommend it!

it's horrible hearing people applying for uni - makes us want to be back in that position again and get to re-live uni once again!

You'll have fun wherever you go I'm sure but UWE is cool
