Theres a section where you disclose whether your parents went to university?

How relevant is this as something worth mentioning and how and why is it considered by unit making an offer?

-Also is there supposed to be a space where you enter your parents income?

Thanks

I don't believe that's initially relevant to the universities for offers. It is another "monitoring" tick box though - so if you are the first generation in your family to go to university then you may qualify for an additional bursary, or eligible to apply for scholarships.

It can result in a lower offer. Universities consider contextual factors such as whether the applicant attends a poorly-performing school and their socio-economic background. Being in the first generation of your family to attend university is one of these indicators.

For example, see Edinburgh:
http://www.ed.ac.uk/schools-departments/student-recruitment/admissions-advice/admissions-policy/principles
This is one of the (many) pieces of data that universities are obliged to ask their students for as part of their agreement with the government to provide data to HESA for monitoring the sector (eg https://www.hesa.ac.uk/index.php?option=com_studrec&task=show_file&mnl=13051&href=a^_^PARED.html )

It is not generally considered in admissions unless you apply for a course that explicitly states it is relevant (eg http://www.southampton.ac.uk/medicine/undergraduate/courses/bm6_a102.page?#entry ).

If you chose not to supply an answer then it is likely you will be asked again for this information when you enrol at a university.
