Systems of Linear Equations Question

Apparently the answer is that k = 0, but how can that be? I can rref to make k not equal to +/- 1, but what is the rationale for making it equal to zero?

There's no value of k for which you do get a unique solution.

I agree, I've spent an inordinate amount of time trying to work out a method for proving that statement, but I think the answer is wrong and misleading - I cannot find a value for k which provides a unique solution - oh well, thank you everyone for trying :colondollar:
