Why does surface area to volume ratio effect need for transport system?

Now I know the if you have a large surface area to volume ratio this means that animal wont need a special EXCHANGE surface because the outer layer is large enough to let enough molecules through fast enough to keep cells alive. But is this the same for transport systems?

Depends on the context. Certain single-celled organisms with low SA/V ratios might require specialised exchanged surfaces in order to facilitate the exchange of nutrients. However, multicellular eukaryotic organisms with low SA/V ratios will require both. Take an elephant for example, they will need a specialised transport in order to supply nutrients to the cells in the center of the elephant (as well as an exchange surface to supply the cells).
