UCAS References

How do they work exactly? Do I request a reference from a subject teacher, who then gives it to me? For me to input somewhere on UCAS?

From what I've read it seems to common practice within schools/colleges to write a collective references from all subject teachers. They write a paragraph about you, then your tutor collectively makes it into one. However, my school does not do this? They ask us to ask a teacher for a reference. This leads the ambiguous question as to whether I can ask multiple teachers, or just one?

Ultimately only one person has access to the UCAS system so asking multiple people would just cause problems. However you could ask a few for inputs then have one 'main' person writing it. Worth asking.
