First part is setting the 2 expressions for y to be equal to each other - this gives you a quadratic equation to solve, which will hopefully give you 2 solutions i.e. 2 points.

Second part is just the normal method (Pythagoras) for finding the distance between 2 points :smile:

I thought you'd done 8 with the help of TenOfThem's hints?

This is really GCSE stuff - when you're given the value of x, you just put it into the equation for y to find the value of y; when you're told the value of y, you need to set the function equal to that value and solve the resulting quadratic equation to find the possible values of x :smile:
