Graphical calculators

Hi  Would anybody know what graphical calculator is best for a level maths and FM? C2-4 Fp1-3 S1-2? I've heard graphical calculators are quite useful.
Thank you.

The TI-84! I use one for my IB maths course and they're definitely very helpful. Will take some time and practise to get used to though.

You were misinformed.

You were misinformed.

Why so?

Why so?

Because they are expensive and unnecessary and, in some cases, get in the way of learning.

Ok. So they wouldn't help check answers?

A non graphical calculator will allow you to check answers.

How unneccesary save you the trouble of plug and chug for c3 mod graphs :yep:

lol c3 mod graphs?

C4 and FP2 are on another ballpark to C3 - others would disagree.

Are you serious - approx £100 to help you draw a mod graph

Surely you know what a negative number is

Super serious.

You can also programme, do more complex matrices, do linear programming etc.

Av scientific calc can't do that.

I have both, I use both and like both.

Yeah... I wasn't suggesting I'm going to buy one to draw some mod graphs. I was getting info on whether they'd be a good idea to get one (obviously not)- despite the title suggesting my intention to get one.

When I was doing my A levels there were two kids in my year who throughout the entire course worked to an A grade level, both of them were reasonably smart and both worked relatively hard. At the end of it they walked away with a C and a D between them.

Why?

They became overly dependant on the graphical calculators, they didn't figure things out for themselves, they just plugged everything they could into the calculator, and so while they learnt how to operate it really well they never really learnt how to do the maths themselves, and so when they had to sit exams without it they were screwed.

Get a regular scientific calculator, learn to do things properly and you'll be in a much better position.

You are aware that you have to clear all programmes prior to the exam aren't you?

There is a lot you can do on them - you suggested that mod graphs were a reason for buying - I disagree

I agree with MrM - I do not see their worth
