Measuring the distance of a star

Is it possible to measure the distance of a star at home using a telescope and parallax?

I'm SIRIUS....:colone:
Find a published list of the nearest stars and find candidates that have an apparent magnitude bright enough that you would be able to record with your telescope. (does your list include sirius?)

what would the amount of parallax you'd need to be able to measure? is that realistic given the resolution of your scope & detector?

Alternative method - look up the period in which pro astronomers were starting to make decent parallax measurements - how does your scope compare with the gear they had available?
