Edinburgh's world-wide reputation (canada and US)?

Is a degree (as an american student) from edinburgh worth much in the US or Canada? I just received an offer and I really want to go to edinburgh, but I want to know that I am spending my (high international) tuition money the best way possible.

I mean I applied to Cambridge too, but haven't heard back on an interview yet. Obviously Cam has an incredible prestige, but what about Edinburgh?

Computer science if that helps.

Computer Science at Edinburgh is really prestigious actually. They have a brand new informatics building in the center of the city which shows the university wants the department to succeed and according to their website: "Edinburgh came top for Computing Science and Informatics in the UK in the last two RAEs, 2001 and 2008."

Informatics at Edinburgh delivers more world-leading (4*) research than anyone else in the UK - 69% more than our nearest competitor.

The RAE is actually done by the UK government in order to analyze who to give their funding to next, so its impartial and it really means something. Its only done once every 7 years as well.

If you look at this ranking/list Cambridge isn't even on the list. The only UK schools on the list are Imperial, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Sussex

This is an article, I know its self touting but the facts don't lie.

The QS World University Rankings shows Edinburgh as 12th in the World for Computer Sciences. One of its best showings.

Overall as a university, Edinburgh is prestigious, not as prestigious as Cambridge but in the next tier. But from what you see, its not difficult to tell that Edinburgh has a top CS department, with top researchers and they have 2 Turing award winners. Cambridge no doubt is still good but it may be "resting on its laurels" rather than continuing to maintain its advantage.

I think if you go back to the US or Canada you'll find that your degree will be recognized, especially amongst researchers and employers

Edinburgh has a massive international reputation, and you will set up very well in life and for your future career if you come here. Computing Science is particularly good, so don't worry about recognition if you decide to go back to the States and Canada
