New Car feels slow, struggling to accelerate.

So I have only had this car for just over 3 weeks now, semi-automatic Corsa 2013, first few weeks it drove well, I used the manual option and gear changing was a beauty, I went to fill up my tank the other day and I think I filled it too much, I never like to go beyond half a tank, but the car felt sluggish afterwards, turned on my AC to try and burn some petrol, and that took forever, after two days had a trip to the country side with a lot of hilly roads as automatic goes it struggled, I thought it was just normal for automatic cars, but now on flat roads, I need to press the gas harder inorder to get from gear 1-3 and then the manual mode doesn't seem to want to respond to gear changes, now stuck driving the auto mode which is even slower. I checked oil levels it's half way, so will buy more on Monday, but before I take it to the garage can someone give me a rough idea what might be wrong? The car is only 1 year old and with 6000 milies on the clock so certainly it can't be the engine? Or gear box? It also has a ratting sound coming from the engine which wasn't there before? Could it have something to do with fuel pressure? The car was also serviced twice, once before the car was sold to the dealership and again before the car was delivered to me. Certainly any major fault could have been picked on? Am hopeless with cars.

It's a very slow car to begin with....when you say manual mode doesn't respond to gear changes are you saying the shift time is delayed or the car doesn't shift at all?

As it is still within warranty, if you have the time you may as well get the garage to have a look at it if it is driving differently. It won't cost you anything. (but make sure of that before you give it over!)

It does shift, but it struggles to actually move into gear, makes a sound like its screaming for life and then shifts.

You mean where I got it from or a Vauxhall garage? Because the dealership is in Liverpool and I live in London, so that journey is too long to make with a slow car.

No no, any vauxhall dealer will be fine.

I'm sure there will be one in London! Maybe in Vauxhall, hahahaha!

Ahh, I can find one. What do I need to take with me or even say, am not used to dealing with cars.

If I were you, I would give them a call first and talk to service, explain what you said here and ask them if they want to see it. Be insistant as it is not in their interest but it is in warranty so you may as well get an expert to have a look.

Then you can talk with them to find a convenient time for you to drop it off and them to have a look at it.

Always thought Vauxhall is a place where they make cars.

As am not the first owner of the car, it's not covered by the warranty. Is there away to go around this? I really don't want to spend money on the car.

the Vauxhall Iron works ltd in London did make cars - but moved out to luton in 20s or 30s keeping the Vauxhall name

the vehicles sold as Vauxhall are built various in Luton, ellesmere Port, Germany, Spain, ?Hungary? and 'Stralia ( the Commodore HSV variants sold as VXR8)

It's a 1.4. But it feels so under powered compared to my last 1.2

Eh? The car is covered under warranty not the driver/owner.

The car has a 3 year warranty no matter how many owners the car has had.

Did Vauxhall tell you that!?

Yes vauxhall told me, it's covered for 100000 miles or 10 years which ever comes first, but it only applies to the first owner as an the second owner I don't have that luxury.

I didn't know they were allowed to do that, I would seek clarification and then talk to the Citizens Advice Bureau:-

That sounds very odd.

Thanks, I think the lady thought I was after the life time guarantee. Thanks.

It's interesting that you only noticed these symptoms after refuelling.

I would be suspicious of the fuel that was added. Perhaps diesel instead of petrol? Otherwise contaminated? Not necessarily your fault, but petrol stations have been known to have the wrong stuff in their tanks before now...
