Failed first year of Uni - taking a gap year now

I studied Optometry last year but I had to withdraw from the University because I failed one of my exams by 4%. I passed all of my modules overall but this particular exam was part of a module where all elements have to be passed. I submitted an appeal as I had undisclosed extenuating circumstances so I'm waiting on a reply from Uni but regardless of whether they let me back on or not I'm going to have to take this year out.

In the meantime I'm going to have to make a new UCAS application and apply to a different course in case they don't accept my appeal - I just want to know if anyone else has been in a similar situation, in terms of failing first year of Uni and taking a year out as it's quite stressful. And what did you do/do you plan on doing in your gap year? And are you going to apply for a different course?

Thanks:smile:
