Hey guys - I'm completely new to this forum, I saw a few of you had TC interviews at Freshfields last month (congrats!) so I signed up. I received my invite on Monday for January the 8th and it will be my first ever TC interview so I don't know what to expect re: interview questions... if anybody could give me any insight that would be great! Pretty nervous already!

You go in, you do a "redrafting exercise" where they give you a series of emails and ask you to spot mistakes and write about ambiguities and whether the tone is appropriate and complies to client demands. Then you have a general interview with a partner and a senior associate where they ask you about yourself. The questions were very personal so I dunno how much I can help you there. Then after that we did an interview with a partner and someone from HR based around interpretation of an article from the FT I was given. It was challenging but good fun and good experience as well!

They still haven't got back to me though and I'm getting antsy :P

Was your assessment day yesterday? I did have the chance to go yesterday, but I did feel that two days of preparation wouldn't be quite enough! Fingers crossed for you though! I'm sure you'll have got the offer.

Your reply is really helpful - good to know the interview is very personal. I assume (/hope) this means it's a whole lot about your application and motivations, and less of those annoying 'tell me about a time when..' competency questions?

Haha, be calm, I'm sure you'll be fine. You seemed like you were very prepared and knew what you were doing; I have the utmost confidence in you. It was nice meeting you btw!

Good luck! I was ridic nervous too, but they were reeeally friendly and I wish I hadn't worried so much. For the personal interview they kinda let you steer the direction -- they'll ask questions that are relevant to answers you have just given, if that makes sense. I did get competency questions though. The ones I remember were the standard: times you've worked in a team, time you've worked under pressure, time you've tried something new. I honestly don't find competency questions to be annoying, just make sure you have a vague idea in your head of the different activities/whatever you've done, and how you could apply them to a range of situations. None of them were overly difficult and they don't try to throw you off. Try not to worry too much and I'm sure you'll do fine.

Haha I was offered coffee first, declined it then got a glass of water- if I passed on that one too it would've been a disaster  Btw was this for the TC or vac scheme interview?

Edit: woops this is clearly for the TC since its in the TC forum...

Awh, ****. :frown: That sucks, man. I honestly thought they'd offer you a place. Your interviewer escorted you out like you were best buddies and everything!

I hope the news from slaughters is better. Good luck.

p.s. was it via email? i still haven't heard back and although i'm fairly certain it's a rejection the not knowing is driving me cray.

I dunno why they rejected me, although I think it was cos they cornered me on a few questions in the general interview and I fluffed them, and they mustn't have liked my written exercise! Unfortunately they didn't give me any feedback, just an email.

Anyone has already had answers? Where have you applied guys? and are you waiting for Christmas to apply?
Omg... seriously struggling with the situational judgment tests (currently preparing for the HSF one). Does anyone happen to know what the benchmark is?

Hello! Don't worry- it isn't that hard, you just need to think about it logically! You will be fine. The logic test is much harder though.

Good luck with it

I can't offer any help with the interview, but I have a couple of friends from law school who have accepted TCs from Travers, and others who have completed vac schemes, and they all seemed to love the firm. Those who have TCs seem really excited to start training! Sorry I can't be more help, but good luck! I'm sure you'll nail it.
Has anyone got any decent cover letter templates for a TC that they don't mind sharing with me?

Thanks for this insight! Everyone I've spoken to really loved the firm too. Just gonna give it my all and hope for the best! - keep you posted
Just completed the HSF verbal and logical reasoning tests.... serious FML. Does anyone know how long it should take for them to tell me I've been reje- sorry, *ahem* I mean, what the outcome of the tests is?
I think it takes roughly 5 days for HSF to get back to you after online tests. That's what it was for me last year anyway (and I had an invite to AC). Good luck!
