Trigonometry Q

So my question is, isn't the approach in the mark scheme in eliminating theta long-winded?

I mean, can I not just say that 3cos2theta (which is x) = 3(1-2sin^2theta) which simplifies to 3-3y^2

Therefore, x = 3-3y^2

I cannot tell what you are saying

Are you saying

x1=3(12sin2θ)x-1 = 3(1-2sin^2 \theta)

If so, yes

But you seem to think that the RHS = 3(1y2)3(1-y^2) which it isn't
