The Student Room Group

My ideal society.

This is the type of society I would want to live in. Please post yours.

I am for a political system of basic needs where all people have the right to the following regardless if they work or are unemployed:

Basic needs would be defined as the modern requirements to be full parcipitants in everyday society.

In this society money will be abolished. It will be replaced by a contribution system which issues tokens of contribution to different ranks of achivement.

For example there could be 3 ranks. Easy, Medium & Hard. If a person just goes into a mundane job and stacks shelfs for a living they will earn Easy contribution tokens which will give them a working class income. If a person becomes a Teacher or a Website Developer they will get a middle class income. If a person becomes a Doctor or Civil Engineer they will get a upper class income.

There will restrictions on what unemployed people can and cannot do. Pensioners and some disabled people will be exempt.

For example things like TV's and Computers will have a min operating time which they can be turned on for. This will be monitored by power usage. To extend various entertainment rights citizens must work and be productive. Each hour earned of contribution rewards a set time of entertainment reward.

.......

This is the kind of Socialism I would want to be part of because basic needs would be looked after and if you contribute you get something back in return.

......

Also by getting rid of private speculation the class of capital cannot leech off of the hard work of workers.

Where will you build your camps? Khymer Rouge Cambodia; Cultural Revolution China; North Korea, they all need their camps. Basingstoke has good rail connections and there is plenty of space outside the town for the mass graves.

At least China, Cambodia and DPRK have cheap housing and nice coastline. Getting people to migrate to Basingstoke however...

Communes can exist with Capitalism providing 1 person owns all the land which the commune is built on it can be done.

No we wouldn't need Fema camps like USA has. If we wanted someone to leave we would just exile them.

In the search of an alternative system, socialists often fall in the trap of highlighting the end goal without considering the transition period. You have to guide society towards a moneyless society. I've been mulling over a few ideas. The description you provided is rather extreme since the world is capitalist and what you are proposing is communist lol.

Society is money centric. Messing with their money directly causes issues. Find a way to de-emphasize money in society and then your idea will seem more acceptable.

I recommend utilizing capitalist mechanisms to achieve socialism. This is the basis of my future manifesto.

You do realise that your token system is basically money?

The Token system is not money. People will live in communes. If you are someone who has a easy job you will be put on the easy Faction diet, entertainment, housing, leisure etc and you will have access to the relevant resources.

Fair enough. We build a spaceship and colonize another planet. There you go.

So a communist system then.

Speak to somebody from Eastern Europe or Russia about that. It never worked out too well.

How on earth do you quantify achievement and contribution to society? My definition would be very different to yours. Who's definition gets used? Why is my definition any more valid than yours, and vice versa? Even assuming we could quantify achievement, could you really put it into three categories? Surely it'd be a continuum?

Definition would be defined by the democracy as long that it doesn't break the constitution of basic needs.

What you haven't factored in is that most people would fit in the "Easy" category and would thereby be the worst off. There is no way this system would be accepted by a demographic process since most people would be disadvantaged by it. Not only that, but you're basically insulting most people's contribution to society.
My ideal society would consist of several classes

Elites (around 200 people, ruled by birth would own everything)
Military (around 40000 people, be found by eugenics and live fairly good lives)
Labourers (around 6 million people, they would be taken from their parents when they were born and raised by goats so they couldn't question the State the only words they would know is bahhahha they would also be taught practical skills like 'how to lick an elites foot' etc, they would be breed for this exact task and desposed if they were rubbish).

Elect me in 2015 k thx.

Socialism is a work in progress. It has had huge problems where Narcissists have ceased control for themselves often though military rank.

Communes are working today but they are small. Here is an example:

Communes have been around for millennia.

Large scale use if combines have failed. Look at the soviet experience.

True. We aren't far behind that with the Corporate Dystopia though. I think democracy should be closer to the people as possible and we need to look at a mix of Capitalism & Socialism to be able to trade with each other but make sure at the same time financial speculators have no job lol.

Democracy is as close to the people as it can be.

And we have a mix of capitalism and socialism. That's why we have a welfare state.

Actually now we have about 80% Capitalism and 20% Socialism. I'd rather there be 75% Socialism and 25% Capitalism.

So again, you want a situation like the Soviet Union? That wasn't fully communist.
