books to read for chemistry?

Hi, I'm in year 12 and want to study chemistry at uni. I'm looking for some books to read (both for personal enjoyment and to put on my personal statement) and was wondering if anyone knew of any interesting books about chemistry they would recommend

I still leaf through "The Extraordinary Chemistry of Ordinary Things" (4th Edition) by Carl H. Snyder. It's a textbook which explains a lot of reactions from everyday life like the citric acid in lemon finishing off the cooking of ham or things like that. Made chemistry more relevant and exciting and easier to remember.
