Nice! I'm from Norway originally, what was the occasion to go to Toscana?

Halla. Hvor i Norge kommer du fra? :ninjagirl:

Spoiler

As if to illustrate my point about being rubbish at maths, I am actually 28 years old, not 29 as previously stated

I have woken up this morning literally unable to speak. Nothing more than a whisper is coming out.

I really hope that it comes back in the next hour or so, or work today (in retail) is going to be a huge amount of fun... :erm:

I'm sure you will be able to sell things through the medium of interpretative dance.

Yes. I second that:ninja:
Might not be online as much over the next few days so would just like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas/Season's Greetings, and a happy, healthy and industrious 2015! :h: Thanks to all of you for providing a space to vent/ramble/moan in, and especially to those who have helped and encouraged me along the way during 2014! :grouphugs:
Man have I had a bad day. I went to the gym with a cold, came back with a seized up back like a proper old man. Lay around for a bit, then went outside and my welder caught on fire or something (it's under warranty so it's cool). So now I'm just sitting on my own on Saturday night with a bad back, messed up sinuses and my lungs taste like whatever is usually found in a capacitor.

On the bright side I'm writing a strongly worded letter to a welding course provider which kind of sort of scammed me (OK that's not such a great bright side, but if I get a refund without going to court I will be happy happy happy), and there is a kind of competitive NFL game on for once.

It was great to see you :hugs:

And I had such amazing luck! Even though I was forced to get the very last train home... the one that has police on it because its so bad... for some really strange reason it was fine tonight! Maybe the Christmas revellers spent themselves last night instead. Such a relief.

Thanks.. This is almost more annoying because of the timing. I have Monday and Tuesday at work, which is a relatively physical job. I get paid hourly and about 10% of my monthly pay is an attendance bonus that I get for not having a sick day in a given month. You also lose 3 months bonus for taking a day off without a doctor's note the day before a holiday. So having Monday off would cost me over £200, and having Tuesday off would (I think) cost over £500 over 3 months unless I went to a doctor and got them to tell my boss I really did pull a muscle, in which case it would cost the same as Monday.

So.... ibuprofen tomorrow and Tuesday. I wish I still had a more exotic stash of drugs, but I don't. It feels a bit better today.

I guess they are trying to stop people skiving but the end result is basically forcing someone like you who really needs the time off to be at work. Doesn't sound like a very fair system to me. I'm pretty sure that conditions like that would be illegal in some countries....
Hope you feel better quickly.

I don't really need time off, and I doubt I would even get a doctor's note although I guess with back pain it's pretty easy. The system is voluntary, I had the option of being paid a flat rate. It breaks down like this, and both options are just about a living wage @ 44 hours a week in my location. They had a big skiving problem when I joined.

Flat rate £7.50 ph no bonus

vs

Flat rate £7.25
Regular bonus for production/being good or whatever, can be 0.00-£1.75 but most are on the lower end, I get £0.50
10% attendance bonus assessed monthly

So I get something like £8.50 in a normal month, £7.75 in a month when I'm ill which hasn't happened once in any job since uni. In summer I should be qualified for a better job anyway, £9.90 is the max you can make and that's a starting wage at a lot of jobs, but this is pretty laid back work and good experience.

In other news, I am just getting used to the fact that I am now half a day behind the rest of the world (the relevant world to me anyway, haha, sorry antipodeans ). I will probably just get properly used to the new time zone in time for my next ( and possibly last) trip to Cam just after new year, and fall asleep halfway through my presentation. Oh and Gmail has been letting through all my forwarded cam email except... that of my supervisor who has been ending up in junk  Luckily, no lasting damage.

Yeah it is almost certainly illegal in Norway (not 100% certain though).
Scandinavia is kind of a socialist utopia though.. Our starting base rate is more than NMW, I don't see it as particularly sketchy. In any case, hopefully I won't have to worry about it for such a long time.
