please help, ethernet has no valid ip configuration
Hello,
I'm at Cardiff university and my desktop was working fine with the Internet.
Since then my motherboard broke and I got a replacement (different type) and installed Windows 8.1 as opposed to windows 7. But now when I try connect to the Internet I get a ethernet doesn't have a valid ip configuration, error. I have tried extensive google of this error and tried pretty much every suggestion to no avail, so does anyone here have any ideas? Ive tried manually setting ip address. Updating drivers, ip release renew. Literally everything and I still can't get on the Internet.
My network adaptor is a Realtek PCI-E GBE Family Controller

Is this in halls or a house? If the former, do you need to give your MAC address to the sys admin?
