Cytoskeleton

Hi I do vet med and we had a lecture on the cytoskeleton and I'm just struggling with a key concept.

-Are microtubules, actin filaments and intermediate filaments all involved with the cytoskeleton? Or does each different filament form different cytoskeleton types with different functions.

uhm, using what i've been told they are independent of one another, so in essence form different types of cytoskeleton. although they are all part of the cytoskeleton itself

From the lecture and from my notes I seem to gather the same impression. It's a bit vague in a book I have it say's that the cytoskeleton has three different components: microtubules, microfilaments and intermediate filaments. I agree with you I think! :s-smilie:
