the terrorist killed in Ottawa yesterday has been confirmed as another recent convert to islam.

Definitely the ginger ones.
The problem with this sort of populist response is, be careful what you wish for, if you want to increase the power of the State to monitor and observe its citizens.

If we have a more powerful State it would be able to act more strongly to pick up potential terrorists but this also means the State has to gather more information on everybody to find out who is a risk.

For instance if you deem that converts to Islam are a problem, how do you detect who is a convert to Islam and going about it quietly. You need some mechanism to observe citizens to make sure we can monitor this, and this means giving the State more powers to observe what you are doing, what websites you are reading, who you are talking to on the phone, online, check your texts, whatsapp conversations, to check that you aren't doing anything that could be a terrorist risk.

Terrorism is a threat and the security forces need to be empowered to tackle it without too much interference but be careful what you wish for if your solution is "place more power in the hands of the State". Often people that support this are basically right wingers but think about it like this, if you give the State more powers to monitor and interfere with peoples lives, how would you feel when in the future a left wing Labour government comes in to power with this enhanced State machinery, would you trust them to be guardians of your liberty and not use the nanny State to make sure you live as they want you to live...

Waste of time. If the security services wanted such powers they'd ask. Let them get on with their jobs. Blanket approaches do nothing but push people into extremism

No it shouldn't. It will only encourage further alienation.

What exactly are you talking about? Do you really think treating every Muslim as a terror suspect is going to achieve anything, except waste resources and make extremest groups seem justified?

No but then pussy footing around them seems to simply result in more extremist groups.

As I said any excuse can be and is being made and the results are always the same

And I'm not talking about 'treating every Muslim as a terror suspect' I'm just saying we need to accept that Islam has become a massive force for evil and we need to put in place a structure that accepts this
