This is clearly an attention grab or the people in your gym are immature. If you have an issue with it, go at different days? This is easily solved by sitting down and making a mild thought or two about it. Additionally, I've never seen this happen in any of the gyms I've been in. South England must be different, 'eh?
The more I think about it, it was probably me being me. I usually make a conscious effort to go when I know not many people will be around so that I can get in and get out easily so I probably just wasn't used to that many people.
