What are the benefits of having a social life?

What do you think are the main selling points of being social with other human beings?
Little really, at least so far as real self-improvement goes. Most people's socialising is built on little more than the exploitation of others, be it for sex, illusions of a higher self-value because of social status, desire to 'fit in' or because they can't cope with solitude (this one applies particularly to women). Oh, and 'networking', which is a fancy name for smiling at and befriending people in case they get job opportunities or something that can further one's career. So really, it's just about people using others as disposable utilities. They'll talk to one another only so long as they get material benefit.

Needless to say I don't socialise much, but saying that, I still believe having 2 or 3 good, actually reliable friends you can occasionally meet up with for a good discussion is nice. That's what I have, thankfully. People like that are hard to find.

I like interaction with other people. I enjoy being in the company of others, discussions, learning/experiencing new things etc.
You get to laugh at other peoples jokes instead of your own. Useful for gaining knowledge too.

gives you something to do when you're bored or have spare time

you're less likely to feel lonely or to become withdrawn or isolated, it might contribute to a better mood and a more positive outlook on life, better mental health and well being

gives you experience of dealing with lots of different types of people, people from different genders, ages, races, socioeconomic backgrounds, etc etc

improves your communication skills and general conversation skills, may even encourage you to broaden your knowledge in certain areas depending on who you hang around with

makes you more confident around people

has the potential to give rise to significant long term friendships and/or relationships

So you can function as a human, not an indoor cat.
