Reading around the subject: Chemistry books for year 13

So I want to apply for chemistry at Uni next year and my chemistry teacher said I should read some books around the subject, both for my personal statement and to consolidate what I'm learning. I've asked him for a list but I was wondering if you had any recommendations? I'm particularly interested in reactions on a molecular level, and also in the quantum world, but any recommendations would be great.

Cheers

How far do you want to go? How much money are you willing to spend?

I am currently quite enjoying Chemistry3, but it'll cost you. I didn't much like it at first, but I'm getting into its style.

Or, if you want me to conform to the norm... Why chemical reactions happen by Worthers and the other chap.
If you are reading around the subject then avoid textbooks.
Look for books like What is chemistry? by Peter Atkins. Search for this on Amazon and look at what other books it suggests based on what other people bought.
