I did my work experience spread across a week in the summer and some time during the October half term. I think it entirely depends on your schedule and where you can fit stuff in, I don't think when you did work experience really makes a difference on your personal statement.

Are you a 2016 applicant then?...you got in there early...Do you intend on doing anymore?

I had a dentist neighbour, so that helped :P well not right now, I'm finding AS a bit hard so I'm going to focus on that. I think I've done quite a bit already so I can consolidate it with other stuff

What AS's do you do?
I think I will organise work experience for the summer so that I can concentrate on AS Levels. Have you done or do you do any volunteering/paid work as well? I still haven't figured to what degree they value this?

Offer holder for 2015 entry here, don't worry about GCSE's, just meet the 6A requirements for most uni's and you're fine. I have 2/4 offers with only 1 A* at GCSE so just goes to show you don't need great grades!

I do Biology, Chemistry, Maths and RS. How about you? I've done DofE up to Silver and that includes volunteering. I'm hoping to get a temporary retail job this summer in Boots or something. Are you a 2016 applicant too? I think universities just like to see that you have good communication skills with customers etc which can translate across as a dentist.

When would be the best time to organise work experience for in a dental practice? Should I aim to do two full weeks, full time, or spread it out over a longer duration?

I'm hoping to apply this year and I had some work experience orangised through my local NHS in a general practice, I've just been doing little bits here and there though! One of my local private practices just give me a call if somethig intresting comes up just so I don't end up seeing endless check ups! Good luck getting a placement though!

Do you have contacts within the profession?
If not then you should take whatever work experience you can, whenever you can..... obtaining work experience placements for dentistry can be really difficult and you MUST get the minimum 2 weeks (and btw for some universities you must state the amount of time in your personal statement or you will be automatically rejected),
The minimum is 2 weeks GDP but if you get an opportunity for specialist work experience such as max-fax then I would definitely go for it, whenever the opportunity arose.
If you are confident you can organise work experience then I would organise it now (to secure your place) If you can pick and choose when to do your work exp, personally I would organise a few days in the Feb half term or Easter holidays in order to get a snapshot of dentistry (if you don't like it you can start looking at other options/uni courses)
I would also organise at least 2 weeks at the beginning of your summer holiday.Don't leave it til the end of the summer holiday in case your work experience is cancelled, for whatever reason. If possible it is good to do work experience in different practices, nhs and private.
Personally I would recommend you doing work exp in blocks of at least a week. Work experience is not just about observing clinical skills, it's about discerning whether dentistry is the career for you. Work shadowing 9-5 for whole weeks will enable you to get a sense of what it is like to work in a dental surgery full time and build relationships with members of the clinical team so that you can ask questions.

Hi  I think it would be helpful for you to go onto the individual websites for the universities you're interested in and check out their international students section.

I started my work exp back 2 years back, i have 7 weeks collectively now (3 weeks NHS, 3 weeks orthodontist and 1 week private) i also volenteer at a care home and attend regular dental implant procedures, not sure if its overkill but it could be worth its weight in gold

I wasn't actually aware that it was offered, but i was trying to get a university which did both medicine and dentistry so that it may help me when i go post grad, but i doubt it :P
