Change the mixed number to an improper fraction and all will become clear.

Would the improper fraction be 2/8ths I think I'm approaching it wrong

You think that 1916=281\frac{9}{16} = \frac{2}{8} ?

Are you looking at a different question?

Do you know what 19161\frac{9}{16} is as a single fraction?

Do you know what a power of 12\frac{1}{2} means?

So - once you have the correct fraction this should be straightforward

So for question i as a top heavy fraction its (25/16) to the power of 3/2. So treat everything separately. First if something is to the power of a half that's the same as square rooting everything so you get 5/4 to the power of 3. Now cube everything so125/64...
Hope that makes sense 😊

Ahhh I get that!

So you basically had to turn it to top heavy then square root the numericals involved (25/16) to 5/4 and cube it cause of the power 3/2!

Seems so simple! That is all I needed thank you very much!!

easily done

- so you know that you need to square root - and then?

TBH - you were almost there -

With indices always try to break down into the composite parts

negative = reciprocal
denominator = root
numerator is power
