Your opinion about these courses would help me a lot - Film

Hello, everyone !
First of all I would like to thank everybody here for enlightening me about some of the major questions I had about the film related carrer I am looking forward to pursue.

I read everything I could around here about the courses the Uni's offer and I narrowed the choices down but there are still more than 5 courses so I am looking forward to hear your opinion about these.

1. Film Production at Winchester - http://www.winchester.ac.uk/Studyhere/Pages/ba-hons-film-production.aspx

2. Film & Media Production at Sheffield Hallam
[h="1"]http://www.shu.ac.uk/prospectus/course/535/[/h]
3. Film & TV at Edinburgh

4. Media ( FILM ) Production at Staffordshire

5. Film and TV Production at Hertfordshire

http://www.herts.ac.uk/courses/film-and-television-production

6. Film Production at Gloucestershire
http://www.glos.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/fpr/Pages/FilmProduction.aspx

The thing is that I want to pursue a carrer in film production ( espectially in the post production part ) and for this I need a course that is mainly practical. Also, I haven't considered some (maybe) greater universities because of the accomodation. The price I would settle for would be around 80-90 pounds/week. I am not looking forward in living in heaven just wanting to find a place where I could sleep when I get home from working my ass of in the editing room.

Thanks a lot for your time!

Hi Tibi,

I don't know about those university courses, but I studied Journalism at Bournemouth University (2007-2010), and I'm now back doing an MA in Video Editing. I love it because we work with the other MA courses (Directing, Producing, Script Writing, Cinematography and Radio) and it's like actually working in the industry!
The course is about a 50/50 split between practical and theory-based work, but even the essays can be done as short TV programmes, so it really is great fun. I'm just about to start work on my "essay", which will be a 10-minute documentary about Alfred Hitchcock!
I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have

Hiya!

We offer two Film & TV programmes here at the University of Hertfordshire. Based on your description, the Film & TV Post-Production sounds like the course for you- http://www.herts.ac.uk/courses/film-and-television-post-production.

Both of these courses are Creative Skillset accredited and we have amazing industry links with the BBC, Warner Bro's, ITV etc.

I'd definitely recommend a campus tour to see what you think of our Film & TV studio and campus in general!: http://www.herts.ac.uk/apply/open-days-visits-and-webinars/book-a-campus-tour

Do let me know if I can help with anything else and I hope to see you soon!

Hi Tibi,

I am currently a first year student at Bournemouth University studying BA Television Production.

I know it wasn't on your list of options but I do believe you should definitely consider looking into Bournemouth

Bournemouth University has an internationally recognised Media school, so its great place to start if you want a career in the media industry. It has industry accreditation, including the Creative Skillset and also included fantastic facilities (such as the HD Studio and Avid editing suites) and placement opportunities.

My course is mostly practical, doing location and studio shoots nearly every other week. It's fast paced and great fun. A fantastic way to learn about the world of production.

If your heart is set of Film Production, Bournemouth University do offer a BA Film Production and Cinematography course at their Wiltshire College in Salisbury.

Also, there is lots of accommodation on offer from halls to shared houses

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
