HM treasury Policy Advisor Grad Scheme

Sorry I'm a little late to the thread, I am through to the assessment day on the 12th. Anyone else as nervous as me? :frown: Going to it feeling sure you aren't good enough is never a good start. Anyone else wondering what we have to do in the written test? Bit mean to not tell us
I'm in for the 9th (PM), pretty excited but also nervous!

Presentation looks okay, just hope the question isn't super left field. Getting my statistics research down at the moment.

Biggest focus for me though is the competency interview, they're gonna grill us hard on those.

Anyone got any ideas on the timescale post assessment for offers etc? I haven't seen anything about that!

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Have you prepared for the presentation? I'm just going through the links they sent out at the moment. I had heard you go straight from the presentation to them questioning you and then straight into the interview all very quickly.

If you are successful they contact you in May, my guess would be that they send out rejections in April but the website says if you are successful they will send out offers after the 13th May.

May is an awfully long time! On the FAQs part of the website, it says we'll receive notification of the result in March.

Anyone had theirs yet? Some tips on the written assessment or type of questions they ask in the presentation would be useful!

I was told when I emailed that you would be told in May if you definitely get it, maybe it all just depends on how well people do and how they weed people out.

I know they will mark you on a points system and award points based on how you answer the questions but the sort of questions they ask I have no idea. I would hazard a guess that have a good answer for why you want the position and having a strength and a weakness to talk about is usual as it is in most interviews. Written test, no idea but with presentations they usually have three questions they have set to ask and may ask you to clarify something. It is really hard to find anything because this grad scheme doesn't always operate every year.

If you have a look at the spec on what they are looking for the bulk of your points will come from the interview and presentation because it is looking at more things. Follow the STAR method to answer the interview questions

Yeah I've been doing the same, the lion's share of the information they ask for is in that document so that seems pretty important! Gosh, no psyche up time between pres and interview then?

As late as May? That's pretty rubbish, but I guess they have to wait for the elections etc. I didn't see that on the website though, clearly I'm not top policy advisor material

Thanks for the luck, same back to you chap!

They are interviewing quite a few people for a handful of positions. I guess it takes a while to go through all the applications. I would guess that they let the unsuccessful know throughout march and april and the successful know in May, they are interviewing right up to the end of the month.

Nope no psyche time :frown: you do the interview they question you and then straight into it, I suppose it is a lot to get done in a few hours really. This is the only grad scheme I've applied for that I have got through to the assessment day so I am begging and praying at the minute that all goes well next week or the brown stuff hits the fan!

I dare say the election may play a part in how many they recruit.

Are you at uni at the minute or have you graduated?

<br>Mate, what are you on about? The very last day of interviews is the 27th of February. I don't think it takes 3 months to decide who's met the competencies and who hasn't.

To actually go through the less obvious rejections it does take weeks to go through and then decisions are issued in batches. I applied to JP Morgan last year, between the interview and the decision email it took 4 months. These things move slower than you'd think

I'm not sure how many they'll bring in, probably no more than 50 surely? I'd wager there are about 500-1000 left in the process.

Perhaps you just get the formal job offer in May?

Ah wow, that's going to be intense, but it has to get done I suppose.

I've graduated, back in July, but I imagine a lot of the applicants might be older. What about you?

I graduated back in July too. Every day in my head I'm just saying "don't mess it up don't mess it up" :P

Well the main website says they are looking to take on 60 people so my guess would be they will interview a fair few.

I hope all goes well for you tomorrow. I'm just terrified of the presentation at the minute. I get incredibly nervous doing presentations and I'm hopeless with stats when I get nervous

Haha, yeah I know how you feel!

60 people, so my guess would be we'll be one of 600-800 tops then maybe. Hmm, big odds!

Thanks very much! I'm worried about that too, not sure exactly to prepare a few of the points (i.e. social impact of ISAs? I can figure out the economic impact easy enough, but not 100% sure about that).

Thanks anyway, will post here tomorrow or tuesday how it went!

Well it says the economic impact in the stats social impact I'm just going with ISA's help people save. Very poor line but its all I've got :frown:

I've applied for some 240 jobs in the last 6 months now grad scheme and non-grad scheme, this is only my fifth interview and the last job I'm in for. I really need to do well or I don't know what I'll do.

Try not to worry too much

By all means put everything you've got into this assessment centre but don't break yourself worrying about it.
Also, as my sisters said to me before I had one of my ACs for a different company: "Don't seem desperate, interviewers can smell desperate and they don't like it"

Also, if the FCA is anything to go by, they had 2000 applicants and only invited 160 to AC for 40 positions so the numbers getting through to this stage might be lower than you think.

Blimey, 240? I think I had applied for about 30 pre-july and then got into my current job (but that was through a connection). I hope that you get it mate, but like the post below says, it's not the end of the world!

Best of luck

Was due to have the A/C on the 17th Feb (tomorrow) but I got a phone call today saying that it had been cancelled. They didn't give any clear reason, but said I would still be able to attend the A/C at a later date. Has anyone else had this happen to them? :/
Hi everyone,
Was wondering if you had any details about presentation itself- a bit worried about it as there's not much commentary about ISAs online just a lot of articles about recent changes. Is the presentation question quite obvious or is it a bit obscure? Also did find that alot of the stats in the pa k were for 2012-2013 as opposed to last year?
Depends what obvious is, but not sure everyone gets the same question anyway. Besides, not really sure it's appropriate (or allowed...) to share this kind of info here.

Also people shouldn't be talking about the written exercise either, it specifically says we'll find out what it is on the day, sheesh.
