Why is this degree useless?
Please read the above posts as the discussions have already happened. Reiteration will result in duplicating all the information from above.
Thanks:smile:
Folks I will try and keep you updated about the progress in BMS. This is an article that came out in 2013. the progress to improvement is through critique, because if everything is ok, then what is the improvement made?

Are pathology services in England fit for purpose?

I voted yes. And I've said this many times on here.
BAND 2 AND BAND 3- MEDICAL LABORATORY ASSISTANT

BAND 4 - ASSOCIATE PRACTITIONER

BAND 5 - TRAINEE AND BMS

Now let me just post a document that is a BAND 4 job in Blood Sciences/Pathology. Blood Sciences is the new term used these days.

Now please notice page 8 where it states -:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential

Minimum of three GCSEs including English Language, Mathematics and a science subject

A-level or equivalent qualification in a science subject

Experience with electronic handling of data and fluent keyboard skills

Previous experience of working in a clinical laboratory

DESIRABLE

Foundation degree in Health Sciences or equivalent level of knowledge

now obviously due to legal reasons the hospitals have to give out a generic but a essential criteria for doing the job.

Now tell me do you actually need to do 3 years biomedical science DEGREE to do this job?

Now there is a counterargument that is yes practically speaking the manager is going to take someone who is experienced in the interview and has some experience. EXACTLY MY POINT!!!!!!

Well my argument to that is well in that case start at Band 2 post and make your way up. in those 3 years you can make money, get experience and study part time in the process because to go any further than band 4 you need a degree ibms accredited. overall win win!

this is just one of the examples.

2.

Develops specific knowledge and competence that underpins biomedical science[AHEM!].

3.

Provides expertise to support development of appropriate education and training[HILARIOUS].

4.

Ensures curriculum content is both current and anticipatory of future change[OMG! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! OCW HAVE BETTER CONTENT!].

5.

6.

Ensures qualification is fit for purpose as an academic qualification acceptable for statutory regulation[TRUE].

7.

Recognises the achievement of a benchmark standard of education[YES OFCOURSE, IF YOU SAY SO!].

8.

The degree award meets education requirements for professional body membership[OH YES, IBMS BUREAUCRACY] .

9.

Strengthens links between the professional body, education providers employers and students[UNFORTUNATELY TRUE!].

10.

I will still love to do biomedical science as a a degree no matter how much you exaggerate the matter! :h:
With this degree you can study further i.e. medicine
You really are a "jokingclown" !

This thread has devolved into just biomed hate spam. -.-
Important note to future students/workforce of Biomedical Science

If you dont read anything else in this thread, read this to get a future yummy taste of BMS.

Feedback from NHS London Pathology Workshop 2011-:

•Non-medical workforce profile shift will continue with the number of AfC Bands 2-4 increasing.

•There should be investment in the development of this staff group in line with Modernising Scientific Careers

•There will be fewer registered BMS staff as consolidation gathers pace.
•There will be a need for community based practitioners who may have multidisciplinary roles.

SERVICE MODEL

•Large automated laboratories undertaking high volume

work will require a greater number of AfC Band 2-4 staff.

•Within these laboratories cross discipline competency required from Band 5 -7 staff e.g. Blood Sciences sections.

Specialised laboratories will require expertise in application of new technology in addition to specialist scientific skills and knowledge.
Yes if you say so!!

its for people who are stll deciding and looking at the cons and pros and the conditions of the market.so please take your @random words@ somewhere else unless you can produce hard facts as I have.

pls see attachments. i say again there are pros and cons. its not my fault you can only see the latter.

No, you are purposefully just posting bad things. There are many many things you can do with a biomed degree but you seem to only be talking about the NHS and pathology. There are many more options
