Re: The 'What Subjects Should I Do' MegathreadWhen in doubt you should refer to the websites of the institutions in question. UCAS does not have as much detailed information on entry requirements as that of the actual university site.(Original post by Occams Chainsaw)
there is conflicting info for 2013 applications on ucas.
http://search.ucas.com/cgi-bin/hsrun...n=1142184#CSRA
GCE AS
Acceptability Acceptable only when combined with other qualifications
Subjects and grades required Biology and Chemistry.
Excluded Subjects General Studies
Additional Information One subject from Biology and Chemistry is required to A2 level; if the other subject is offered to AS level, a grade B is required.
Additional Information Three A level passes including Chemistry and/or Biology and one science or mathematics subject plus an additional AS level subject.
So according to what Imperial put on UCAS, it isn't needed. -
Re: The 'What Subjects Should I Do' MegathreadSorry everyone, I edited my post as myyrh responded! -_-(Original post by myyrh)
When in doubt you should refer to the websites of the institutions in question. UCAS does not have as much detailed information on entry requirements as that of the actual university site.
And yeah, I guess. So I suppose imperial is out however there are still some good options there, and varied in teaching style too

Re: The 'What Subjects Should I Do' MegathreadThis is just the confirmation email you asked for.(Original post by carcinoma)
As far as I recall Cambridge required Biology to at least AS, Confirm that with them.
"Dear Sean
Thank you for your e-mail
As you are taking Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics, there is no need to take a Biology A Level and it would not affect your application.
Best wishes

Re: The 'What Subjects Should I Do' MegathreadThanks you. That may have been something I heard that was college specific and no longer applies.(Original post by Occams Chainsaw)

It all depends what university you want to go to. If you're aiming for somewhere in the top 20 - 30, you might want to change Law for Maths, English, Physics, History or a language. At the end of the day, though, do the subjects that you think you'd enjoy, as long as you take the essentials. x
Neggers: Jeez. Are we really in a world where enjoyment is that few and far between?Last edited by ChloeBelle; 29-08-2012 at 14:49. -
Re: A level choices for Medicine
I'd say yes because... Doing both biology and chemistry opens majority of doors from medical schools (adding maths to that would probably open more). Doing subjects you love is important too, it increases the likely-hood of you performing better, therefore increasing your chances of acquiring a place at medical school. All depends what university you want to go to, how hard youre going to work both academically and whether you're fussy what medical schools you apply to
Plus, no rubbish university does medicine and be sure to look carefully about the style of teaching when you choose - traditional, PBL or mixed.

Re: A level choices for Medicine
Don't do law it is not respected by the top universities and will put you at a disadvantage because there is a lot of competition and plenty of people who have more respected subjects like maths or history
Bet you I was negged my law A level student but it seriously law is not considered a solid subjectLast edited by nju; 07-08-2012 at 21:10. -

Sounds fine, you don't need maths or physics.(Original post by luqman15)
Hey, can anyone tell me if considering to chose chemistry, biology, psychology and law would be good subjects to do medicine, or are they just bleak and i wouldn't have a chance at chasing my dream.
Be serious folks...... -
Re: A level choices for Medicine
Those subjects would be fine for most medical schools, as long as you got good grades in both Biology and Chemistry. Doing both Law and Psychology is a bit iffy though, most prospective medical students do Physics and/or Maths too, so personally I'd swap one of those for Physics or Maths.

I'd seriously consider maths.

Re: A level choices for MedicineWho cares? It's not part of the requirements so therefore doing those subjects provides no advantage whatsoever. I really don't see why someone should give up subjects they want to do in order to study something else just because "most propsective medical students" are doing it.(Original post by suncake)

Re: A level choices for Medicine
I agree with that some medical schools like Maths/Phsyics - however, it is only the top few that see it as a requirement. Don't take Maths because you feel you have to if you strongly dislike it. You are more likely to get into Medicine if you take non-science subject and excel in it, rather than taking a science subject and doing badly in it.

Re: A level choices for MedicineThey really don't(Original post by jess_m94)
I think that a lot of courses ask for chem+ 2 other science subjects at AS level.
