1. Poppies
Why should I be pressured into wearing a red piece of paper on my chest? For what? Does this make sense? And how does it commemorate the war dead? The fact that they grew near the dead bodies of soldiers means nothing, it's just chance, and there's no difference between the poppy and any other flower apart from appearance. Unfortunately you can't not wear a poppy for more than 2 seconds without being told you're "disrespectful", "heartless", "ungrateful" or worse still, something else. To me the poppy, the birthplace of drugs, holds no significance whatsoever, and I did not wear one during the Remembrance week. All poppies do is create social pressure to wear one or get out. Many people I know wear one through fear of being ostracised or rated harshly, and some news stations have forced-wearing of a poppy, ridiculous in my opinion. No, white pacifist poppies are no better and in some ways worse. The thing has even become commercialised and businesses make a lot of money out of the poppy which has now become

2. 2 minute silence
This is so stupid. Silence? For what? Why? What's the point? Silence to remember the dead? Rubbish. I don't believe this is at all a good way to remember dead people. All it does disrupt school lessons and timetables, and also creates more social pressure to follow it. Those who hold different opinions like myself risk social isolation and labelling. At my school, I did perform the silence (because if I didn't I would probably end up expelled, what stupidity) but I was definitely not thinking about the soldiers.
Just like, as much as they won't admit, most people.

If the soldiers on the field went over the top for my freedom, don't I have the freedom to express resentment over mandatory observance of these traditions?

Please fully understand my opinions before judging me. I am not against war. I am against social pressure.
Why do people keep saying you have to wear a poppy or you'll be burnt at the stake? I didn't wear one and I saw hardly any other people wearing one and no one was crucified.
