Student council president-advantage?

I have a friend who said that becoming president of student council will have no difference on a university application. Is this true? I thought that it would since many universities want their candidates to demonstrate leadership qualities. I plan to apply to Oxford,LSE,UCL,Exeter,Bath,Warwick, and Durham.

Hey, in my experience this is totally not true. I was vice president last year and now I'm in year 13 I'm the President of the whole sixth form, it has practically doubled my work load, you have to do so much but trust me it is worth it. I don't know how much of an impact it had, but I talked a lot about it in my personal statement and I've already got 3 offers.
