Whats the role of the septum in the heart and its important?

So heres what I think its for, do I have any gaps in my knowledge?

The role of the septum is to separate the right and the left side of the heart, thus preventing deoxygenated and oxygenated blood from mixing. This is important because if oxygenated and deoxygenated blood mix it means gas exchange will become inefficient and the body tissues will not get enough o2 supply so meaning they can not respire as much potentially leading to the death of a cell.

Anything else I could add?
That sounds good to me, you may just want to include the difference between the atrial septum and the ventricular septum depending on the question.
Its not just a barrier - its thick and muscular and greatly contributes to the heart's pumping action.

You could also point out its role in the embryo and conduction system if you want more points to make.
